Maintenance:
Cleaned K&N Performance Air
Filter
-
Odometer: 81128
km (50413 miles)
-
Cost:
Approximately $18 CAD for Cleaning Kit
-
Time required: 20
min of work plus 24+ hours of waiting
-
Note: Unless
you want to drive around without an air filter, you won't be able to
use the car for this time.
The
recommended interval for cleaning the permanent K
& N FilterCharger is 50,000 to 100,000 miles. I decided to do it
a little on the early side.
Procedure
-
Removing the air
filter is straightforward and is basically the same procedure as installing
it. You have to remove the cover, the mid-section of the air
flow pipe, release four clips, and unhook a couple of tubes to get
enough clearance to get the filter out.
- These are the steps for
cleaning the filter

- This is dirty filter. Yuck.

- This is the filter after
cleaning.
- After rinsing with tap water I
gave the filter a shake, set it flat on some newspaper, and it
seemed pretty dry. But when I took it down to the garage and
held it vertically, a bunch of water came out. Sooo...I
thought it best to let it sit on its side for 24 hours just to
make sure it was completely dry.

- This is the filter with new
oil applied.
- I've heard of some people
having problems with their MAF sensors, possibly because of
over-oiled filters, so once again, I let it sit vertically for
24 hours to allow any excess oil to come out.
