Power Mirror Housing Replaced

Repair > Outside Mirror Housings Replaced

  • Maintenance: Power folding mirror housings replaced

  • Odometer: 80860 km - Date: 25 Feb 2003

  • Cost: Approx. $750 CAD for parts + $90 labor

I replaced the motor mechanism in the right side (passenger) mirror because it was no longer folding properly. The problem actually occurred quite awhile ago and was diagnosed by the dealership last summer. It was caused by people physically unfolding the mirror which happened when I was parked at Metrotown Mall. This happened several times and I guess having the mirror bent back 180º was the final straw

Actually, after Westmount Motors replaced it, they told me that the left side (driver's) mirror was also broken. That's really strange because it was working perfectly fine after my 80,000km service--the mechanic at Westminster VW tested it in front of me. I never used it since. After my appointment at the dealership on 11.02.2003, I noticed that the mirror knob had been switched to the heat position. Strange .

Procedure

  • Removing the air filter is straightforward and is basically the same procedure as installing it. You have to remove the cover, the mid-section of the air flow pipe, release four clips, and unhook a couple of tubes to get enough clearance to get the filter out.

What's with Metrotown, anyway? Every time I park there something happens to the car. I used to park right by the security desk, too. People just can't keep their hands to themselves! That's why I hardly go there anymore and I will definitely not take the Passat. It's almost getting as bad as Surrey (car theft capital of BC) !
