Summary:
After trying out both the Mountaineer and the Evolution 1200 boxes on top of the MPV at the rack store, I decided to get the Evolution 1800. The 1200 might have been just big enough to hold the luggage we wanted, but I figured it would be nice to have a little extra space for maximum utility.
Procedure:
Installation is simple and instructions are included in the box.
Notes:
- The box is easy to fit on the bars and is just manageable for one person to lift up and down. This is good because the MPV won't fit in our garage with the box on top.
- After putting the box on the bars, wind noise is practically non-existent
. There's a little bit of rattle from the lid, but you can only really hear it when the sunroof is open. A possible fix would to put a bit of padding on the edge of the bottom shell. With the sunroof closed, though, you can't hear a thing--I'm really happy because I was a bit worried after installing the cross-bars.
- I'm glad I got the silver/black Evolution instead of the all black Mountaineer. The silver lid matches really well with the silver accents at the bottom of the MPV and prevents the vehicle from looking overly tall.
