1000km Inspection
June 18, 2002 - Odometer: 1025 km
Since I was going in to the dealership to have the
mirror installed, I took the van out last night for a little drive
to push it over the 1000 km mark.
Along
with the 1000 km inspection, they took the van out to the body shop to
repair the cosmetic defects on the roof spoiler. During the last wash I
noticed that the paint job was worse than I first thought. In addition
to the paint drip on the side,
almost the entire rear edge was bumpy from excess paint. There was also
a 0.5 cm chip on the roof just under the spoiler. It's all repaired, but
the quality isn't as good as what the mobile repair guy did on the first
defect. Mental note: Avoid body shop in future. There's a few
more scratches just under the spoiler that I'm going to try polishing
out myself.
Now that the van is finished the break-in
period, I've tried being more assertive on the gas pedal a few times. It
feels good . |
Cosmetic
Defect Repair
June 7, 2002
Brought the car in to fix some exterior
defects.
The first
one (located on the right front bumper) bugged me the most. I didn't
notice it until the day after we picked up the van. I thought maybe some
neighborhood kids bumped into it while the van was parked on the street
since it didn't look like it could have been caused by a rock. It wasn't
until I looked at pictures I took of the van at the dealership that I
realized that the damage was there already.
I dropped the car off and they gave me a
Protegé 5 to drive. The repair took only a couple hours and looks
perfect. They even gave me a little jar of touch-up
paint.
They forgot to fix the second
defect on the roof spoiler, but I'm in no hurry and the salesperson
said they'd fix it when I brought it in for the 3-week checkup. |
Break-In Period
June 1, 2002 - Odometer: 78 km
Picked up van from dealership with full tank of
gas. This is what the owner's manual says about the break-in period:
"No special break-in is necessary, but a
few precautions in the first 1,000 km (600 miles) may add to the
performance, economy, and life of your Mazda.
- Don't race the engine.
- Don't maintain one constant speed for long.
- Don't drive constantly at full-throttle or
high engine rpm for extended periods of time.
- Avoid unnecessary hard stops.
- Avoid full throttle starts.
- Don't tow a trailer."
