Additional notes: Updated June 22, 2004
1. The Sequoia is actually dirty in that picture
above having gone through a few days of rain. I didn't have time to wash the whole car, I just washed the tires
. I used Eagle One Nanowax a while ago with good results.
2. I considered the effects of the larger tires on the speedometer. I normally don't drive the speed limit anyway so going faster by a bit won't really effect my ability to avoid tickets. However, I didn't consider the beneficial effects on the odometer
.
3. There is minor rubbing with the new tires. I didn't notice it until the tech at the dealership pointed it out when I went in for an alignment. When the wheels are near fully-turned, one edge of the tire will slightly rub against the splash guards when the suspension is compressed. I never noticed this before (and I'm pretty anal about these things--as my wife tells me). This situation really only occurs when I'm driving slowly anyway--like turning into a driveway so it doesn't concern me. I might remove the splash guards again to see if the tire will rub against the lining.
4. The dealership couldn't perform a wheel alignment with the new BFGs. The BFGs have a rim protector--a section of rubber that extends over the edge of the rim to protect it from off-road
hazards. They recommended a shop with a laser alignment machine. I'm going to schedule an appointment later this week.
5. The BFGs handle pretty good. I've taken it on the freeway for some (brief) high-speed stints and it felt very stable. I've never had a LT tire before so I didn't know what to
expect. With the new tread, response seems a little slower--I guess I was basically riding on slicks before
. I can't wait to get off-road!
