265/65/17 Tire Chains - Jan 4, 2004

We've had a very cold and
snowy winter so far this year which is quiet unusual for the Pacific
Northwest--but perfect timing with the purchase of the Sequoia I bought a set of tire chains because there was a heavy snowfall the night before and I wasn't sure what conditions would be like on our trip to Whistler the next day. The chains are for the rear tires only. The stock 265/65/17 is an uncommon size so the chain shop took measurements and found chains the correct size and tested the fit. The tag on the chain bag said they were for 238/??/16 tires. It turned out that roads were bare with just a few slippery areas so I didn't need the chains at all. Oh, well. At least I'll be prepared for the future. They're really easy to install especially with the tip the guy at the chain shop gave me about using the 2x4. When you drive up onto the 2x4 the tire has a smaller contact patch with the ground and it makes it easier to get the chain around the tire and makes a tighter connection. I just cut a couple of scrap pieces about the width of the tire and threw them in with my winter kit. | ||||
